Holy Long Time No Post Batman!

My apologies loyal followers! I have been neglecting you horribly...and the back patio. My brain did indeed explode. Now it is a matter of putting it back together and blogging! I had a lovely mini-break in San Diego with my good friends Mont and Jessica and snake boy (aka Gabe). Mont reminded me that I do have followers and I need to keep up with the entertainment demand! So I beg for forgiveness from you all and pledge to blog.

Here in Hollywood, we got some good rain that did my job for me, watering the lovely plants. I lost a couple and laid them to rest this afternoon in the recycle bin. However, the avocado baby is resting comfortably after it's replanting, pruning and a healthy sprinkle of snail repellent. Hopefully it makes a complete recovery. It has to since it's momma avocado as yet to yield us any fruit. Did you know that it takes approximately 7 years for an avocado to become fully mature and develop fruit. I didn't either, so imagine my surprise when it flowered and then they all died! Thanks OSH for letting me know, appreciate you making me feel like a bad gardener!!

Pix to come soon!

Squash

I am growing Crookneck Squash. I had always assumed that all of the squash flowers turned into baby squash...not so. There have been many blooms but only one has grown into a squash. I had thought that you would have to pick the buds to make squash flower soup or stuffed squash blossoms and that it would be a waste of the squash. As it turns out there are probably 10 flowers to one small squash that developed...hmmm interesting.

I know, right?!

Yes, all by themselves they grew...I did nothing but give them water. Can you believe it. I got this plant a couple years ago at that same orchid farm in Santa Barbara. They lasted for about 6 weeks, full bright blooms. I wish they all grew like that but patience is the key with these. Just like getting a new job after you've been laid off...just have to hang in and keep plugging away at it!!! And curse your old boss, but not the plant.

Birdseed + Dirt = Flowers

Did you ever think about what seeds are in your birdseed? I never have, but it's obviously seed from plants, flowers, etc. I put a bird feeder outside of the patio and the birds went nuts!! I'm not kidding, we had at least 40 birds on the patio at once. Doves, finches, bushtits, you name it we had it. Anywhooo...it became obvious that the seed was going everywhere. After awhile I had grass growing out of my pots and some lovely daisies. Who knew that birdseed would grow and bloom!!!

Sorry!!

I've been slammed with work plus boyfriend's b-day and Halloween. I have several things to share with you so please check back!!
