Here is one last picture for the year! My very last "crop" of French Lace roses. I'm thinking that when I get back from vacation, will be a great time to prune them. Most roses have usually stopped giving you the perfect rose by this time but since it's been so hot here in LA they may still want to bloom. I'd say give them another month before the winter pruning. Hope you have a great holiday!!!

Drawing Class
People ask me why I still take art classes. I wouldn't presume to know everything about art, keep learning, keep growing. I took a drawing class on Saturday. It was ssssoooo nice! The exercise shown here was to draw only the negative space. It was different but fun...this is my third attempt trying to get it right! Takes me back to art school days!

Key Lime Tree
Finally found a Lime Tree. There had been a hold on all Limes trees because of some parasite or fungus that they were carrying. I HOPE it's cleared up since it's now in it's own pot on the patio! I know that the lemon tree has thorns but this lime tree had giant, thick thorns. Found that out when I pruned a branch off and grabbed it to throw it away! Ouch!!

Wax Flower
I got this Wax Flower plant many....many moons ago at Descanso Gardens in La Canada. I had it in the direct sun, as they had done at the gardens, but it seemed very angry. I put it in the shade and it didn't like that either. All of it's color faded away and it turned a very light green, so sad. I put it on our front patio and it seems pretty happy now. It has grown about three feet and has these lovely blooms that hang from the bottom. I don't know the lesson here but I try to watch the sun when I first move in a new place and see which plants like/hate the sun, etc. I hope to see some of the bright green color comes back into the leaves...we will see.

Debate!!
Some feedback from the last post! Yes, I had heard that the Strawberry was not a fruit because the seeds are on the outside. Here is some technical info: The Straw Berry was named because children in the 19th century would pick them, put them on straws and would sell them as "straw Berries". True berries like blueberries and cranberries have the seeds inside, strawberries have the seeds on the outside and each seed is considered a berry. Does that help?

Radish Madness!!
The radishes are growing already! Can you believe it. Makes me very excited! Yesterday I was a bit of a "slug girl" and all I got around to doing was watering the back patio. Imagine my surprise to see that the radishes had already sprouted, woo hoo!! All of the plants were still alive...good day for the garden!

Mr. Stripey!
GARDEN DAY!!
Oh ya, it was garden day yesterday! I had to go to 3 nurseries to find tomato plants. What's that about? The Home Depot by us is a scary place, I didn't really want to go alone but they had lots and lots of tomatoes, so in I went. I picked up 2 Early Girl, 2 Baby Red and a Mr. Stripey. I am very hopeful about Mr. Stripey. Seems like a very cool looking and tasting one. We will see...I also planted lettuce, radishes, strawberries, Mandarin orange, several herbs and wildflowers. My aunt send me some Maine tomatoes, hopefully they will grow here as well as they grew for her, she has a VERY green thumb! I am very tired today! Had to haul a very large bag of dirt up the back stairs. Looking forward to this years variety of fruit, vegies and flowers for our table. My overall goal is to be able to use the herbs in our garden and not have to buy them. Maybe a lofty goal, as always, keep you posted!

Holy Long Time No Post Batman!
My apologies loyal followers! I have been neglecting you horribly...and the back patio. My brain did indeed explode. Now it is a matter of putting it back together and blogging! I had a lovely mini-break in San Diego with my good friends Mont and Jessica and snake boy (aka Gabe). Mont reminded me that I do have followers and I need to keep up with the entertainment demand! So I beg for forgiveness from you all and pledge to blog.
Here in Hollywood, we got some good rain that did my job for me, watering the lovely plants. I lost a couple and laid them to rest this afternoon in the recycle bin. However, the avocado baby is resting comfortably after it's replanting, pruning and a healthy sprinkle of snail repellent. Hopefully it makes a complete recovery. It has to since it's momma avocado as yet to yield us any fruit. Did you know that it takes approximately 7 years for an avocado to become fully mature and develop fruit. I didn't either, so imagine my surprise when it flowered and then they all died! Thanks OSH for letting me know, appreciate you making me feel like a bad gardener!!
Pix to come soon!
